We can assess built-in beds and garden surfaces for an outdoor sitting area. Where the work is above a structure, loading, drainage and waterproofing must support the proposal. Ground-level gardens can also include lawn and planted borders as part of a wider landscape layout.
Surrounding buildings put this Camperdown courtyard in shade for most of the day, and water was pooling after rain. A drainage base was built beneath the surface, then synthetic turf was laid and edged, giving a surface that stays usable where the previous lawn had struggled.
