Synthetic lawn over a drainage base in a heavily shaded courtyard

The project
Surrounding buildings put this Camperdown courtyard in shade for most of the day, and water was pooling after rain. A drainage base was built beneath the surface, then synthetic turf was laid and edged, giving a surface that stays usable where the previous lawn had struggled.
Project details
Surrounding buildings limited direct sunlight, making it difficult to maintain the existing lawn.
The existing ground held water rather than shedding it, which had to be dealt with before any surface went down.
Synthetic turf was laid and edged, since the shade ruled out a natural lawn in this position.
A drainage base was built under the turf so water leaves rather than sitting under the surface.
