The project
Backyard Makeover
A compact Enmore backyard that was mostly hard surface. Merbau bench seats were built in along the edges so the floor stayed clear, star jasmine was planted to climb the boundaries, layered planting was added through the beds, and an irrigation system was run to keep it going.

What the site presented
Small footprint
The yard was compact enough that furniture and planting were competing for the same floor area.
Almost no planting
The space was dominated by hard surfaces with very little growing in it.
What we built
Built-in Merbau seating
Hardwood bench seats were built along the edges, which seats more people than loose furniture and keeps the floor clear.
Climbing and layered planting
Star jasmine was planted to climb the boundaries and layered planting was added through the beds, with irrigation run to support it.
