Backyard Makeover
A sloping Ryde backyard with compacted soil and uneven ground. A raised garden bed was built to take up part of the level change, the soil was prepared before Sir Walter buffalo turf was laid, and an irrigation system was installed with separate zones for the lawn and the garden beds.

What the site presented
Uneven, sloping ground
Slopes and uneven surfaces made the yard difficult to use and left water sitting in the wrong places after rain.
Compacted soil
The soil had been compacted over years of wear, so neither planting nor turf could root into it.
Inconsistent watering
With no reliable watering, parts of the yard dried out in summer while others held water in wet weather.
What we built
Raised feature garden bed
A raised bed was built to take up part of the level change and give the planting real soil depth.
Sir Walter buffalo turf over prepared ground
The soil was broken up and prepared before Sir Walter buffalo turf was laid, so the lawn could root into it.
Zoned irrigation
An irrigation system was installed with separate zones for the lawn and the garden beds, since they need watering differently.
